Emotional Intelligence: A Power That Leads To Progress In Human Life
You all have heard about IQ but how many of you know that there is a term called EQ? Analysing human behaviour was always my cup of tea. Every time I meet a new person, automatically my mind structures a map of that person's behaviour.
I personally believe that we all somehow judge each other's behaviour in certain ways. The problems in human interaction and emotional suffering always left me with questions. These questions led me to find the term EQ. After exploring the idea of emotional intelligence, I firmly believe the necessity of its presence in human behaviour.
EQ or emotional intelligence is an ability that every person uses to some extent in every aspect of their life willingly or unwillingly. In this blog, I am going to discuss what emotional intelligence actually is, how I have experienced chaos for the lack of emotional intelligence in people, why I think it’s important to develop EQ and how we can implement it as students.
What does emotional intelligence refer to?
Emotional intelligence is the ability to take power over your own emotions and convert it into a tool that can be used to gain mastery over your own social skills. The art of mastering our own emotions can give us an outstanding output of skillful communication, positive ways of dealing with problems, empathising, overcoming difficulties etc.
Our reactions in certain situations often dictate what will happen in the next stage of our life. Having power over our emotional behaviour will obviously help us to make more logical and practical decisions in life. On the other hand, it will help to portray our social image as a more sensible person which helps us to gain social recognition and success.
Psychologist Daniel Goleman detected 5 factors of emotional intelligence. These are-
Self Regulation
Motivation
Empathy
Social Skills
Emotional Self Awareness
The Suffering Due To Lack Of Emotional Intelligence
A few days ago, I was assigned to a group task in one of my courses. As the finals were knocking at the door, almost everyone was maintaining a different schedule under pressure. Instead of empathising and understanding, one of the team members in our group reacted negatively in this situation and there was chaos in our group which was inappropriate.
There are some situations, when in group tasks or even in a normal class we judge some personalities and throw them out of our group. On extreme levels, I believe the cases of bullying or ragging are also related to the lack of emotional intelligence.
I’ve seen this situation in my family life as well. Most of the time, we tend to avoid other members' situations, sometimes ignore ours as well, which later leads to family dramas and chaos.

I personally believe that in our society, we concentrate on certain goals like achieving academic success, financial success and we forget that our human behaviour is a part of our life. If we can manage ourselves and develop the skill of emotional intelligence, there is a higher chance of gaining social harmony, creating perfect leaders in the society.
As a sensitive person by birth, living with people with higher emotional intelligence level comforts me a lot. They inspire me to leave more gracefully. On the other hand, people with the lack of EQ bothers me on a higher level as they tend to create a big gap hole in every situation.
Overall, Emotional intelligence is a very valuable skill that I believe in. I chose this topic so that all of you can actually understand how practising EQ can develop our life. Some of us are highly ambitious yet hopeless, some of us have social anxiety, and there are a lot more problems that we face everyday. Dealing them with EQ can actually make things easier in my eyes.
